Loft insulation prevents heat escaping through your roof which means it costs less to heat your home. It also reduces your impact on the environment.
What is loft insulation?
Loft insulation is a mineral wool fibre which is placed between and over the joists in your loft or attic. This stops the heat in your home rising upwards and escaping through your roof.
Why should I have it installed?
25% of the heat you generate through your heating system escapes upwards and out through your roof. Loft insulation provides a thermal barrier and stops this heat loss.

270mm of loft insulation can reduce your energy bills by up to 1/4 whilst increased energy-efficiency helps lower your impact on the environment.
How is the work carried out?
First we have to find out if your property already has loft insulation. Many properties already have some insulation and its common to assume that you have enough. The recommended level to prevent heat loss is 270mm, which is around 11 inches.
An energy efficiency surveyor can visit your property to check how much loft insulation you already have, if any. The surveyor will carry out an inspection and inform you of any other issues, such as tanks and pipes that may need insulated.
Installing your loft insulation
A specialised team will install your loft insulation to the recommended level. This will include any pipes or tanks as required. They will also take care to insulate the area around your loft hatch. This prevents any heat escaping through the gaps around it.
You should begin to notice a reduction in heating costs immediately after installing loft insulation at your property. By reducing the the length of time you need to have your heating on yor carbon footprint will improve.

Knauf Loft Rolls
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain which aims to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.
The scheme began in April 2013, and over time it has been amended. The latest policy, ECO3, commenced on 3 December 2018, and applies to measures completed from 1 October 2018.
Under ECO3, obligated suppliers must provide funding for measures which improve the ability of low income, fuel poor and vulnerable households to heat their homes.
This includes grant funding for actions that result in heating savings, such as cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation and loft insulation.
