What is Matilda’s blanket?
“A wall insulation system that is is designed to be fitted internally and on the external facing walls of any hard to treat properties – typically, but not limited to, solid wall or single skin building construction.”
While specifically designed for the retro-fit market ‘Matilda’s Blanket’ addresses the issue of poor energy performance of aged housing stock. However, due to its construction and installation methodology ‘Matilda’s Blanket’ brings with it a host of added benefits for occupiers, installers and customers who own, manage and construct volume housing stock.
Unlike traditional internal wall insulation solutions, the Matilda’s Blanket system is designed specifically for the property’s needs and doesn’t adopt the one size fits all approach. Rather than delivering raw materials to site for a physical build, Matilda’s Blanket is supplied fully engineered and boxed, with all components and instructions included for simple installation.
The benefits of a Matilda’s Blanket installation have revolutionised the IWI market and re-energised a retrofit solution that has, in recent years, been considered a last resort due to the level of disruption to the tenant or homeowner and a previously sizeable reduction in living space.
However, the Matilda’s Blanket system addresses both of these key concerns through a combination of high performance materials, system design and an installation that generates little or no waste and most significantly, doesn’t require wet trades.
How is the work carried out?
Matilda’s Blanket Panels are constructed using a unique six-part lamination of high-tech materials. With the sealed air gap between the wall and the panel, the system provides heat, sound and fire insulation well beyond regulatory standards.
The panels are designed and built off-site – each one specially tailored to fit the wall in that room – making the installation both incredibly fast and very simple. Special dampers at the base and the side of the panels are located within tracks and are adjusted to lock the panels into position.
The system is a slim line solution that takes up the minimum of space – about the same as a modern radiator.
The front face of the new wall, Rigidur H, is hard wearing and extremely strong. You can hang cupboards, sanitary ware and TV’s without grounds or anchor plates. All joints are immediately sealed, to provide a perfectly smooth finish, that is ready for decoration straight away.
As no plastering is required, there are significant savings in installation time and cost; and minimal disruption for the residents, who won’t need to move out of the property.
Done In A Day
In most cases an entire room can be completed and decorated, in just a day. Meaning minimum disruption to your life and your living area.
After installation, the warm air in the room is reflected back into the room, rather than being cooled at the wall. The sealed void behind the panel also reduces the temperature drop from inside to outside and helps to prevent damp and condensation.
Cheaper To Run
The room is returned to how it was before – except that now, the house is much warmer and much cheaper to heat.
Think plasterboard, think flaky. We’ve all experienced the need to hang a picture or a TV on typical plasterboard construction wall and found it troublesome, let alone those heart breaking moments when the front face is damaged by a relatively small impact or scrape. With the Matilda’s Blanket system you don’t have to concern yourself with any of this. Impact tests through 68 hammer drops were performed on the Matilda’s Blanket front face with no resultant damage, while plasterboard failed after 5 drops. Equally there are no issues with hanging significant loads to the wall, kitchen cupboards, shelving or TV’s can be fixed directly with standard and approved fixings.
One of the significant benefits of the Matilda’s Blanket system is its ability to help reduce the noise you experience from the outside world. The material layers are a very capable acoustic blanket that coupled with the air gap between it and your external wall will enhance your comfort through silent bliss. Early installations of the product quickly highlighted that noise reduction was high on the customer feedback form and especially for those homes that sat on main roads or flight paths.
A principle Strata of the Matilda’s Blanket system utilises a bonded sandwich of high performance materials that ensures that your home’s heat loss is kept to an absolute minimum That cold wall that used to suck the warmth out of your home is now buried beneath and your energy bills are dropping as you take comfort from the warmth and money savings you’ll enjoy.
Take comfort from the fact that you won’t need to vacate your property while the Matilda’s Blanket team work tirelessly to install your Matilda’s Blanket system. Each wall has been designed specifically for the property and the team will require little preparation from the occupier to allow the installation to start. There will be little or no mess, no need for plastering, very little waste and all electrical and plumbing systems reintroduced to the front face of the wall, just as we found it. Our goal is to complete a room in a day and hand it back to you for decoration.
Matilda’s Blanket’s safety performance is one of those hidden benefits we hope that you never have to call upon. While there are many benefits of such a robust system, the principle concern is one of fire and most importantly the performance of the system should such an event occur in your home. All of the materials used within the system and especially those material layers of the sandwich are fire-rated and approved for the use specified i.e. within rooms or compartmentalised. The front face of the walling system alone is a significant barrier to the spread of fire, and all potential fire routes through the system are sealed with fire retardant fillers.

With indoor air quality becoming a major health concern the world over, Matilda’s Blanket will shortly be offering an enhanced solution that adds yet another layer of well being to your property. VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) are harmful chemicals that are found throughout your home that take on a gaseous form at room temperature; these chemicals have been found to cause a wide range of ailments including nausea, breathing difficulties and skin rashes. Matilda’s Blanket will adopt new material technologies that decompose these chemicals and it isn’t hindered by an emulsion paint finish. Another layer of comfort, We are sure you’ll agree…
